Fishing & Boating

in Racine County

Racine County knows a thing or two about fishing! With enormous Lake Michigan, beautiful inland lakes and the picturesque Root River, we offer something for all anglers. Lake Michigan is home to lake trout, Coho salmon, chinook salmon, brown trout and rainbow trout (steelheads). Whether you launch your own boat, hire a charter boat or fish along the shore, Racine County is an exceptional place to land trophy-sized fish.

Off the shores of Racine, the various underwater ridges are a favorable environment for large salmon and trout. Fishing Charters of Racine is the oldest, largest and most experienced group of sport fishing charter captains in Southeastern Wisconsin.

For an expert resource, go to Salmon Unlimited of Wisconsin, an organization dedicated in supporting the Lake Michigan fishery.

Inland Fishing

Racine County's inland lakes and rivers present many great spots for fishing action!

The Root River runs through parts of Racine and is renowned for fly fishing for chinooks, cohos, steelheads, and brown trout. The Root River Steelhead Facility, located in Lincoln Park off Dominik Drive, is operated by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to collect eggs and fish for hatchery purposes. During the spring and fall spawning seasons, you may watch fish through viewing windows and a holding pond.

Brown’s Lake near Burlington has ample bluegill, largemouth bass, Northern pike, walleye, and yellow perch. At its maximum depth, Brown’s Lake runs 50 feet deep and spans 396 square acres. The lake is accessible via four boat ramps. Launch fees apply.

The Fox River in western Racine County offers fishing opportunities as it winds through the communities of Waterford, Rochester and Burlington. It is accessible at several local parks.
